Using a piece of ginger root (often carved into the shape of a dildo or butt plug) to stimulate the anus, vagina, or male urethra. The raw ginger creates a burning sensation that some find sexually stimulating.
The practice comes from feaguing, or gingering, horses. Horse traders would place a carved ginger root into the anus of older horses. The burning sensation would cause the horse to carry its tail higher and to appear more spirited; this would fool buyers into believing the horse was a much younger animal.
It eventually came to be used as a punishment for disobedient wives in Victorian times, but the penalty backfired when some women discovered they liked the sensation.
