New Way Around British Telecom’s Default Porn Filter
Earlier this year the UK government announced it’s plan to launch internet filters blocking obscene content, such as pornography. The result was a public outcry, with companies such as BT taking the stance alongside the governement. campaigned by David Cameron. This is only the first planned step on a list of tasks with the focus of reducing peoples access to pornography. Other items on this list are things such as: possessing so called ‘Extreme Pornography’ is to be outlawed, a blacklist of abhorrent or offensive search terms and a single secure database if illegal images of children for all police forces to work with.
Earlier this week BT launched their controversial filter, forcing all new customers into the filter unless they contacted BT directly to ‘opt out’, exsisting customers are automatically opted out and will be contacted by BT over the course of the year to be asked if they would like to be opted in to the porn filter or not.
The move has been seen as a restrition of rights andf freedoms by free speech activists and has forced millions of Britons to look toward other ISP, or ways around the filter.
It wasn’t long before “Go Away Cameron” was launched. GAC is an extension for Google Chrome that was created by a computer science graduate based in Singapore. It’s a very simple to use way to access the blocked sites. The GAC extension will allow you to bypass all of BT’s internet censorship and get immediate access to all blocked websites. All you need to do is install the extension, log in and the blocks are instantly bypassed.
If you don’t happen to use Chrome or for some other reason are unable to use the extension there are a few other ways to get around this and most other content blocking. In fact, readers can check out our blog on how to avoid Internet Filters.
