It looks like James Deen, one of porn’s most popular male stars is ready to hit it big in Hollywood.

Rumors are swirling that Deen, who is one of only a handful of pornstars who have found any crossover success, is pegged to play the lead in the film adaptation of the runaway bestseller ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

Novelist Bret Easton Ellis of American Psycho fame and who was short-listed to write the film adoption of Fifty Shades of Grey is campaigning heavily to get Deen the title role of Christian Grey. Ellis tweeted this past Saturday. “Just got inside information that James Deen is actually in the running to play Christian in “Fifty Shades of Grey” with E.L. James support.”

Ellis also tweeted that “‘[the]movie will DEFINITELY be written by a woman and the budget will be below 15 million. Ana will be played by an unknown.”

If Deen is up for the role he’s up against stiff competition. Ryan Gosling has also been rumored to snag the title role along with Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder.

Universal secured the rights to Fifty Shades of Grey for $5 million this past March and wasted no time in hiring both Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who produced the Oscar-winning drama The Social Network.

Fifty Shades of Grey has become the UK’s all time best selling novel with over 40 million copies sold worldwide, and has prompted talk of book burnings lately. If Deen is lucky enough to win the role, it will definitely put him on the map in Hollywood along with his role in a movie called the Canyons which will be released in 2013.
