Though porn makers will tell us that their audience these days represents a cross-section of men and women-straight, gay and everything in-between, the truth of the matter is that white straight guys make and watch porn more than any other group. When we do not understand the actions or customs of a group we either grow to fear that group or we invent our own specifications for understanding. Quite quickly Asian woman were perceived as either demure lotus-flower-like damsels who were ever-subservient to their men or dark dangerous seductresses; roles that were easy to understand if not so very accurate. The truth is that, while our ethnicity does color our worldview men and women are complex creatures whose personalities are made-up of many factors, not just where they were born. But these stereotypes last and seep into modern culture and the art that that culture produces. We got and still get some stunted but often repeated ethnic stereotypes of Asian girls, from popular mainstream movies all the way to Asian porn…fueled by a less-then studied Caucasian view.
Luckily with the net we are exposed to every corner of the globe and come to learn that all men and women aren’t really all that much different than one another. There is a mixing of cultures in the modern world because of how we react to one another, reflected in some breaking-down of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed, big-busted typical porn girl type and some lessening of specific Asian girl stereotypes.
But the ideals we created so long ago have a tenacious hold and we still see many modern day porn DVD’s being produced and released that show those two typical Caucasian Asian porn stereotypes.
