What we need to do but so often can’t is separate the character an actor or actress plays in movies or T.V. from who they really are in real life. There are countless urban legends of soap starts being accosted by irate fans who hate the terrible actions they see the actor or actress do on their shows, never realizing that it’s all fiction and the man or woman is acting a role!

Same can be said of how enamored we get over our favorite porn star. Sure, from sheer practice they might be more adept at certain sexual maneuvers then the layman-or girl-but people like Sasha Grey are real flesh-and-blood human beings, and while possibly more liberal about sex then you and I, still susceptible to bad moods, off days, body odors and all little things that make us all human, but possibly not so attractive.

We watch someone like Sasha Grey play through a highly specialized microcosm of her life, and one not even really of her making. She appears to us as a wanton insatiable sex kitten most of the time because that’s the role she is put in most times. But as with any other actor or actress, the alluring Miss Grey is playing a part when she lies down or rolls on top of someone and her responses, while possibly genuine and her skills, while certainly well-honed are captured for the camera during the most opportune of moments.

We basically see our stars, be they porn stars or rock stars, at their best, out and about, performing for us, fulfilling the fantasy we have of them. On an everyday basis that fantasy would quickly fall away and we’d have to contend with the sobering and not-so-sexy fact that Sasha Grey is just about as human as the rest of us, no better, no worse, but just as real.
