Somehow the sex tape we always seem to get treated to only ever shows the celebrity couple or the senator and the call girl engaging in normal everyday sex. Surely the stuff that makes it to the net or gets reported about in the news is embarrassing to the couple at large, not to mention usually bolsters their career in the public view, yet it is never anything that even hints of kink. Is it that the truly kinky are never celebrities or politicians, that if one is kinky one never tapes one being so or that if a kink tape were to be found even the most despicable black mailer would have the decency to never show that particular tape to anyone?
Certainly revelations of a kink from our brightest and best is unnerving, from anyone actually. We all have regular everyday sex lives full of normal copulation-even if it’s of a gay variety-but God knows entertaining one of our sitcom stars coddling a foot fetish or suddenly being aware that a congresswoman likes to have her nipples tortured in clamps is simply too bizarre for many of us to consider. We can contemplate sex in the abstract but not sex in the here-and-now and nothing is more here and now basic then the deep gut-level desires we need to get off.
It is enough though for the sex tape to show what it has shown in its history; it really some of our most unique modern-day porn. It makes an impact, ruins and bolsters careers, sometimes at the exact same instance. It invests infamy to a couple, becomes more popular in some instances then anything a celebrity or politician ever accomplish. But for the most part, by the luck of the draw or simply by good common sense of when we turn on the video camera, the truly kinky stuff is never captured on a sex tape…and we’re probably all the better for it.
