Pornographers have been up to their necks in a damned-if-they-do, broke-if-they-don’t petard ever since the advent of the net. As access to the web grew, and people became rabid in their use of the Internet-and portable devices were invented to access that access-the men and women who produce naughty fare jumped on the opportunity to present their product on online. Pretty much at the forefront of streaming video technology, porn movies were quickly presented in on-line formats for public consumption; studios could download their samples, they allowed streaming videos to members of their websites and basically kept open the free flow of information of what they were selling, where and when.

But there would soon come a price to pay, a price higher then pornographers were making with all this good will on the net.

It became too apparent too late that audiences were availing themselves of free porn videos. Dirty stuff that pornographers worked hard to produce-from paying pricey popular porn stars, to shooting in foreign locations-was being undercut by the fact that the audience for naughty movies could and were seeing those movies on-line, for free! The medium that pornographers had been championing has turned around to stab them in the back and what’s more they were pretty much powerless to stop it.

At this stage in the evolution of the net pretty much everyone who has ever sold am product or service is rethinking how to monetize it. This is as true for porn movie makers as anybody else. Everyone is scrambling to be ahead of technology-which they can never be-anticipate what the public wants-when the public doesn’t even know what it wants-and hope to make money from what they do in a format that they can’t be ripped off from-which no one has yet been able to figure out.

Digital image can be pirated, download and manipulated by the layman as much as the makers of those images and there is no reason to believe that more and more free porn videos will be seen and released for mass consumption while the studios that made those videos won’t be left chasing their own tails.
