Dirty movie makers are in a quandary, and have been for years. As the web grew they saw a perfect opportunity to present their wares on-line, and they did all they could to be on the forefront of the tsunami that was net pornography The studios could download samples, stream video to their audiences, even sell content over the net for a minimal price and even membership fees to their fan base who would pay to view content streaming.
Pornographers were reaping the rich benefit of using the web just as escorts were advertising on it, cam girls were doing their daily shows and just about anybody else who was working in the business was enjoying the access the web allowed, without realizing there might be a price to pay.
It suddenly became too apparent to the studios that there were free porn movies being shown. That their wares, the stuff they worked so hard to produce and paid porn stars lots of money to appear in, was suddenly appearing on-line in pirated form. They had to begin to hire teams just to search the web on a regular basis and the monster that they had hoped would march across the landscape felling competitors in its path was now coming to stomp on their livelihood. People could now get free porn on line and they were getting it on a regular basis.
The only way for porn makers to retaliate-beyond the exhausting process of policing content-was to spend more money. They made bigger and better websites to attract their audience to their streaming videos and only their streaming videos and they began to produce DVD’s that saw amazing budgets and high production values, hoping to lure viewers off line, away from the very medium they so championed and still pretty much do champion as it continues to bite them on the ass!
The future of the business unclear, but certainly somebody is watching all that free porn…and watching it right now!
